$24 MILLION CHOICE NEIGHBORHOOD GRANT PROBABLY THE LAST BIG FEDERAL GRANT

Shreveport has benefited greatly from the $24 million CHOICE Neighborhood Grant from HUD.

Those monies constructed Bayou Grande apartment/office complex and other Shreveport projects. The fact that this construction has contributed to/caused flooding at Millenium Studios and that most of the offices are vacant should not distract from the grant's positive impact.

Shreveport’s Community Development Department and other local entities including the Shreveport Implementation and Redevelopment Agency (SIRA) should not plan on future HUD grants during the Trump Administration term. And even if a Democrat is elected as the next U.S. President, it will probably take a year or more for many former programs to be re-started--so that means more than four years.

Hats off to former Community Development Director Bonnie Moore for heading up the efforts to obtain the grant and then fulfill its terms!
