QUESTIONS ABOUT KRAC PAC AND KRACMAN'S DEFAMATION DEFENSE

QUESTIONS ABOUT KRAC PAC AND KRACMAN'S DEFAMATION DEFENSE

It's refreshing to get feedback from readers of Settle Talk--be that praise, criticism, correction, and/or questions. Any feedback is better than none and it at least evidences that the column was read.

Hope these comments answer reader inquiries:
1. A PAC is a political action committee and it is regulated by federal campaign finance legislation and regulations.

2. I had NO involvement in the formation or naming of the PAC nor the selection of the PAC members.

3. To my knowledge this is the FIRST PAC to be formed in northwest Louisiana for the specific purpose of paying legal defense fees.

4. The AG suit against the Parish and seven Democrat Commissioners was filed BEFORE Kracman was sued for defamation.

5. On Aug. 15 of this year I published a column on the PAC which is reproduced below.

6. The PAC was formed to pay legal fees to defend the defamation suit filed against Kracman, PERSONALLY NOT IN AS A COMMISSIONER,  after the Parish refused to provide legal representation in this suit.

7. I have NO idea how much money has been donated to the PAC or any other fundraising efforts to pay for the defamation defense for Kracman.

8. I have NO information on the fees to be charged to Kracman to defend the defamation case.

9. I do NOT know if donations to a PAC are tax deductible.

For more information I suggest that readers contact Kracman at ckracman@yahoo.com or on this FB page. I am always happy to answer questions but other than what is above I have no more information on the PAC.

CADDO COMMISSIONER KRACMAN FORMS PAC TO FUND DEFAMATION LEGAL DEFENSE

Caddo Commissioner Chris Kracman was sued for defamation over comments he allegedly made concerning the Hosston truck stop. The Caddo Commission attorney  has determined that Kracman is not entitled to have the Parish hire an attorney for him.

Faced with the need for substantial legal fees, Kracman has formed  KRAC PAC, Inc. (a political action committee) to accept donations that can be used to pay his legal fees. The officers of the PAC are Lisa Massingill (president), James Couvillon (treasurer) and Robert Bilderback (secretary)

Kracman has retained the Stephen M. Gele' of the Bivalacqua, Gele' & Ellis law firm from New Orleans to represent him in this litigation.  Gele' is a highly respected attorney who has represented public officials throughout Louisiana, especially in defamation cases.

Donations to this PAC  should be made payable and mailed as follows:

KRAC PAC, Inc.
P.O. Box 1701
Prairieville, La. 70769

The maximum donation that can be made is $25,000.

"I need funds ASAP to fund my defense. I hope my supporters will assist me in this necessary, but very unfortunate ,expense. This litigation is intended to silence me as an elected official from speaking out to fairly represent my constituents in north Caddo. I am confident that I will be vindicated provided I can fund my defense. Thanks for any help." Chris Kracman
