WHAT WILL BE IMPACT ON CADDO LAKE IF BLANCHARD SELLS WATER TO DATA CENTER

Here is what IS known:

1.  The Town of Blanchard has a permit from the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH)  to withdraw 5 million gallons of water per day from Caddo Lake

 2.  Blanchard sells water to Oil City, Belcher, Dixie, Gilliam, and Mooringsport and supplies water to  Blanchard customers

 3.  During the summer months Blanchard pulls out approximately 3.5 million per day

 4.  In December, Blanchard Aldermen approved the sale of water to an undisclosed large commercial user at the request of NELP executive director Justyn Dixon

5.  As is the norm with potential industrial development, Dixon will not provide any information on the potential user.

6.  There are rumors of the possible construction of a data center on a 500-acre tract between Blanchard and Mooringsport

7.  The impact on Caddo Lake of a larger withdrawal of water by Blanchard is unknown.

8.  Laura-Ashley Overdyke, Caddo Lake Institute, has concerns over ANY additional large withdrawals of water from Caddo Lake because the lake’s capacity has lessened due to siltation including detritus from dead salvlinia  on the bottom of the lake.

9.  Overdyke has major concerns over the possible sale of water from Lake of the Pines to the city of Dallas because Lake of the Pines is the main tributary feeding Caddo Lake.

10.  Overdyke advises that the Caddo Lake ecosystem is very fragile and that additional large-scale withdrawals of water could possibly result in lower water levels for users, and potential health issues with water temperatures, dissolved oxygen , algae blooms along with taste and odor problem
