It's time, no long past time, for Shreveport city judge Sheva Sims to hang up her black robe, exit the Shreveport City Court building, and go to the house. If Shreveport citizens are best served, the Louisiana Supreme Court will either remove her from her judgeship or suspend her for a duration that prevents her from qualifying for another term on the benca.t
The criteria for a “good” city judge, in my humble opinion, include a good judicial temperament/demeanor, good legal acumen, and a good work ethic. Sadly, Sims lacks all these qualifications.
The city court is a people’s court. The court hears a very large volume of evictions, collection suits, misdemeanors, and civil suits with a maximum claim/award of $35 thousand dollars. This court also handles small claims actions filed without attorneys.
Kharmen Davis, daughter of well-respected pioneering Shreveport attorney S.P. Davis, has decided to challenge Sims in the election. As they say, she comes from “good stock”. And most importantly she fulfills the judicial criteria set forth above.
Davis will be running in the black majority district.
Davis is a graduate of Southern University Law School, and she was admitted to practice law in Louisiana in 2010. She practices with a great mentor, her dad, and handles personal injury, family/domestic, criminal law, and worker’s compensation cases. This background will serve her well wearing the black robe.
Kharmen and her dad SP are putting out the word in legal circles that she will be a city judge candidate in Sims' district. She has already lined up support from some big hitters in the legal circles, and she will no doubt run a strong campaign.
It’s great news that Shreveport voters will have a well-liked and well-qualified candidate for Shreveport City judge in this district race.
