The city council chambers at Bossier City Hall are currently undergoing a much needed upgrading and remodeling. This effort is expected to be completed by June of this year at an approximate cost of $700 thousand dollars. The council had budgeted $900 thousand for this project.
Mold has been discovered in a portion of the of the chambers. The extent of the mold, the needed remediation, and the additional costs for this additional work have yet to be determined. An inspection by a representative of the Louisiana Department of Health will be conducted soon and the findings will provide the needed guidance on the mold issue, which could delay completion and greatly increase the remodeling costs.
The Bossier City Council will hold its meetings in the Bossier City Courtroom, which is in the city hall complex. The first meeting in this temporary location was yesterday (Tues.)
All the council members were seated in close quarters at a table placed inside the rail in the courtroom. The mayor, city attorney and council clerk were squeezed into an area adjacent to the door leading to the judge’s chambers and the Bossier City Court clerk’s office and were basically out of view.
The meeting went well, which is no surprise with meetings of the Bossier City Council. All the equipment needed for the meeting was installed that day and had to be removed after the meeting.
The new location provides visitors with an up close and personal view of the council in action. Thankfully this council does not have vitriolic, combative members that would be very troublesome with council members seated elbow to elbow. All in all, the meeting in the temporary location ran like a smooth oiled machine.
