John came to Shreveport in January of 1977 when he was transferred to Barksdale AFB.

He’s been active in Shreveport politics since deciding to make Shreveport his home.

John practiced law for 40 years and he now monitors local politics. He regularly attends Shreveport City Council and Caddo Parish Commission meetings.

John is published weekly in The Inquisitor, bi-monthly in The Forum News, and frequently in the Shreveport Times.

He enjoys addressing civic groups on local government issues and elections.

MAYOR ANNOUNCES 2026 SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS
 
Mayor Tom Arceneaux is pleased to announce the launch of the 2026 Mayor’s Summer Internship Program, offering local college students an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in municipal government. The program runs from June 8 to July 17, 2026, providing selected interns with paid, structured learning experiences that introduce them to the inner workings of local government.
 
“We are excited to welcome a new cohort of passionate, driven students who are eager to learn about public service,” said Mayor Arceneaux. “This internship will provide them with meaningful exposure to city operations and help develop the next generation of leaders.”
 
The six-week program is open to students who meet the following qualifications:
 
• Must be a resident of Shreveport, LA (priority consideration given)
• Must be at least a college sophomore or graduate student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
• Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
• Must demonstrate a strong work ethic, commitment to community, sense of responsibility, and academic performance
 
Eligibility Note:
 
Applicants who have participated in the Mayor’s Summer Internship Program for the past two consecutive years are not eligible to apply.
 
Interns will work 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM, and will be compensated for their participation.
 
HOW TO APPLY
 
Interested applicants must submit the following materials:
• Completed application
• Resume
• Letter of interest
• Two letters of recommendation (with contact information)
• Official college transcripts (sent directly from the institution)
 
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION
 
All application packets must be received by 4:00 PM on April 6, 2026. Incomplete applications or those that do not meet the eligibility criteria by the deadline will not be considered.
