CADDO COMMISSION SET TO CHANGE LIST OF COMMITTEES

The Caddo Commission meets tomorrow (Thurs.) for its regular meeting.

An agenda items amending the Commission’s Rules and Procedures setting forth standing committees is expected to be adopted unanimously.

Here is a summary of the key provisions of the  resolution:

1. The Animal Services Committee is abolished

2. The Appropriations Committee will have new  jurisdiction over “the creation or modification of any special fund in the parish treasury to which proceeds from parish taxes, fees, or other charges are dedicated”.

3. A subcommittee on entertainment is added to the Economic Development Committee.

4. The Long Range Planning & Special Needs Committee is abolished

5. The Alcoholic Beverage Committee is abolished

6. A Special Projects Committee is established.

7. A Rural Development Committee is established

8. A Public Safety Committee is established.

The resolution establishes 12 standing committees. The Commission is composed of 12 commissioners and presumably each commissioner will be named a committee chair.

The list of chairpersons has not been published, but evidently Stormy Gage-Watts will chair the Economic Development Committee. Commission President Greg Young names the committee members and committee chairs.

Presumably there have been no communications among commissioners regarding committee membership and committee chairs that have violated sathe Open Meetings Law. However, the announcement by Gage-Watts of a meeting of the Economic Development Committee at the Monday work session does cast some doubt on compliance with this law.
