THREE PRECEDENT SETTING VOTES ON NON-PROFITS BY BOSSIER CITY COUNCIL TOMORROW

The Bossier City Council is setting the  bar for fiscal responsibility in funding non-profit organizations.

The council meets tomorrow (Tuesday) and three agenda items are expected to pass.

The first vote is to terminate the City’s Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with the Bossier Arts Council and  BAC’s use of city facilities. This is the final reading of the ordinance, and it can be enacted tomorrow.

The second vote is to prohibit payments by the city to any outside agency or entity while listed on the Legislative Auditor's non-compliance list. This ordinance is also on final reading and can be enacted tomorrow.

The third vote is on first reading, and it will require a second vote at the next council meeting. This ordinance deletes city funding for the United Way of Northwest Louisiana because this agency is on the Legislative Auditor’s non-compliance list.

All three of these ordinances reflect good government principles of sound fiscal management and responsibilities expected of agencies/entities receiving public funding.

Hats off to the Bossier Council for considering these tough, but critical, matters and making hard decisions that may not be popular to some  but are in the best interest of all Bossier citizens.
