AMAZON SIGNS RATEPAYER PROTECTION PLEDGE

Amazon, along with other data center operators including Google, ITI, Open AI, Oracle, have signed President Trump’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge.

This commitment, first announced by Trump in his State of the Union address, ensures the rapid growth of AI data centers WITHOUT raising costs for families and communities.

These companies have agreed to cover all costs of all new power generation required for data centers. This pledge ensures that new data centers will not increase electricity prices for residential consumers.

In a news release, Amazon stated that in addition to the monthly power bill, it pays for the additional infrastructure to deliver that power to their data centers, including new transmission lines, substations, and other grid upgrades.

Amazon enters into long-term agreements with utilities that include mechanisms like minimum demand charges, financial guarantees and multi-year commitments.

These long-term commitments give utilities the capital and certainty to invest in modernizing and strengthening the grid that services their data centers along with households, local businesses and the communities around their data centers.

This agreement by Amazon should allay some of the fears that have been raised locally about the proposed three data centers.
