WHO WILL REGULATE MESSAGING, VISUAL EFFECTS AND LIGHTING INTENSITY ON G-DOME

The Shreveport Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) is expected to approve a variance to the dimensional requirements of a wall sign and to allow off-premises advertisement requested for the G-Dome at its 3 p.m. meeting tomorrow, Wednesday.

The application states that the variance is requested to allow large scale advertising to be projected across the entire dome at certain times.

The variance application states that the Dome is meant to provide a highly sophisticated visual entertainment experience, much like the Sphere in Las Vegas but on a smaller scale.

The ZBA staff report notes that the planned exterior LED panels will display a mix of on-premises content, off-premises messaging, and dynamic visual effects.

Approval of the variance does NOT include any guidelines, restrictions, or limitations on the content of the messaging, advertisements, or visual effects. Similarly, a variance does not address the times, hours, or days that the dome will be “lighted” or the intensity/brightness of the dome lighting.

During the Humor and Harmony Festival the temporary dome featured parties with open marijuana smoking and dancers with minimal clothing. Dome advertising of any future such parties is certainly problematic for the downtown area which is not comparable to Las Vegas.
