How much does the Louisiana State Legislature pay attention to resolutions from elected bodies throughout the state, especially if north of I-10?
It’s a good question.
The Caddo Commission has a well-deserved reputation of being the Resolution King of all Louisiana elected bodies, passing resolutions on topics ranging from butterfly day to anti-Trump issues and everything in between on local, regional, state, and/or national content.
Here is the preliminary list of “please do’s” and “please don’t” to the state legislature:
1. Reject any legislation that increases the holding time for juveniles in custody, sponsored by Commissioner John-Paul Young
2. The make-up of the Louisiana Sickle Cell Commission, sponsored by Commissioner Stormy Gage-Watts
3. Electronic method of voting for members of public bodies, sponsored by the Caddo Administration
4. Rejecting any increase in the property appraisal time for ad valorem tax purposes, sponsored by the Caddo Administration
5. Opposing removal for submission of evidence of immunization against meningococcal disease.
Sponsored by the Public Safety Committee and Commissioner Cothran
6. Rejecting any new requirements for Caddo- Bossier Port Commissioners, sponsored by Commissioner Greg Young.
And as usual the proposed agenda has several resolutions of a local nature.
Caddo Commission Clerk Jeff Everson should be nominated at the National Association of Counties (NACO) as the national resolution author of the year, if not the century.
