MAYORAL CANDIDATES YOUNG & GAGE-WATTS VOTE FOR $75,000 WELCOME SIGN

The Caddo Commission agenda yesterday (Thurs.) had a resolution to spend $75,000 for a "Welcome to Caddo Parish" sign on I-20 East.

A similar, much less expensive sign on I-49 North is hardly noticeable to motorists driving 70 mph.

Commissioner Epperson, who sponsored the resolution, was joined by mayoral candidates John-Paul Young and Stormy Gage-Watts, who voted FOR this expenditure. The resolution was defeated on a 7-3 vote with two commissioners absent.

A fully equipped police car costs $70,000.

Young has urged the Commission to purchase 40 patrol cars for the Shreveport Police Department at a cost of $2.8 million.

The votes by Young and Gage-Watts will certainly become campaign fodder for their opponents.
