WHY NOT PUT MOTEL 6 RATHER THAN GROUP HOME ON CROCKETT STREET

The Green Shed property on Commerce Street between Central ARTSTATION and Caddo Common is owned by The Providence House.

This lot is zoned to allow construction of a five story Motel 6 on the location.

The MPC had to approve The Providence House proposal because a group home is not a use by right at this location.

Those objecting to the Providence House plan cited many irrelevant and often incorrect reasons to justify their obvious opposition to the poor homeless children and their parents who will be housed at the location, the overwhelming majority of whom will most likely be African American.

It’s the old NIMB axiom—Great idea but NOT IN MY BACKYARD—on a street that has very few occupants.
