What Water Loss For Data Centers Could Mean For Caddo Lake Gators

State wildlife officials said they do not expect the alligator population at Caddo Lake to be affected by water withdrawals tied to proposed data centers.

A water services agreement approved by the Town of Blanchard in December 2025 allows millions of gallons per day for a project related to a data center development.

Caddo Lake is the second-most alligator infested lake in Louisiana and is home to some of the most alligators in Louisiana and Texas.

“From what we understand they have not decided to take water from Caddo Lake at this point but if they did it, would not be an amount that would significantly change water levels,” Jeb Linscombe, Biologist Program Manager for Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, said. “We do not anticipate any impacts on alligators at this time.”
