John came to Shreveport in January of 1977 when he was transferred to Barksdale AFB.

He’s been active in Shreveport politics since deciding to make Shreveport his home.

John practiced law for 40 years and he now monitors local politics. He regularly attends Shreveport City Council and Caddo Parish Commission meetings.

John is published weekly in The Inquisitor, bi-monthly in The Forum News, and frequently in the Shreveport Times.

He enjoys addressing civic groups on local government issues and elections.

Job growth is happening in Shreveport. The area has added hundreds of jobs at a couple of spots over the past 2 years. KEEL News has reported a pharmaceutical company is set to open in August and jobs at the SLB plant in West Shreveport have mushroomed from 600 to 1,500 hundred and that number is expected to top 2,000 at the end of the year.
 
The Shreveport-Bossier area—boasts a diversified economy driven by government, healthcare, education, manufacturing, and the energy sector. Several big companies have been adding jobs over the past year.

It’s no surprise government tops the list around the region. Barksdale Air Force Base remains at the top of the list. The two school systems are 3rd and 4th. Willis Knighton checks in again this year at #2. The medical field is one of the largest sectors in the region.

 
What Other Businesses Show Up on the List?
 
Frymaster, Prolec GE and SLB (formerly Schlumberger) are some of the largest companies in the area and each of them have hundreds of workers. The Amazon Fulfillment Center is also near the top of the list and has easily topped the early projections of 1,000 jobs.
 
How Many Casino Jobs Are Filled in Shreveport Bossier?
 
Margaritaville leads the pack with 763 according to the Louisiana Gaming Control Board. LIVE Casino is next with 750 jobs. Bally's has 643 workers while Horseshoe has 542 employees.
 
What This Jobs Report Shows for Shreveport
 
This data shows the area boasts a very diversified economy—defense, hospitality, manufacturing and medical. This helps our area better absorb economic shifts. We are also seeing growth in Webster and DeSoto Parishes. This shows that more jobs are being created across the region.
 
This also sets the stage for recruiting new industries to our community. One big project currently in the works is the old Libbey Glass Plant. The North Louisiana Economic Partnership is actively marketing that property to companies interested in bring an operation to town.
