The Shreveport City Council is proud to announce the launch of Council Connects, a new civic engagement initiative designed to strengthen relationships between residents and their local government through education, collaboration, and community leadership.
The inaugural program under the initiative, the Neighborhood Leadership Institute, is a free, one-day experience that will help residents better understand how City government works and provide practical tools to become more informed and engaged community leaders. The NLI will be held Saturday, September 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Inspired by discussions during City Council committee meetings, Council Connects reflects the Council's collective commitment to increasing civic engagement, strengthening neighborhood leadership, and empowering residents with the knowledge and resources to become active participants in their community.
"Council Connects reflects the Shreveport City Council's commitment to creating a more informed, engaged, and connected community. By helping residents better understand how their local government works and providing opportunities to build relationships with City leaders and departments, we are empowering citizens to become active partners in strengthening our neighborhoods and moving Shreveport forward together," said Council Chairwoman Tabatha Taylor.
Participants will take part in interactive educational sessions led by City departments and community partners and participate in an Expert Lunch Panel with community leaders.
Applications are now open and will be accepted through September 1. Residents may apply online at https://shreveportla.seamlessdocs.com/ng/fa/mmb3uqgx9368. Participation is free, but advance registration is required.
