Residents present at the Data Center Townhall meeting last night were asked to attend the next Caddo Commission work session on August 17 and request the Commission impose a data center moratorium.
The Caddo Commission has approved the construction of the Stateline Road data center where site preparation has commenced.
There have NOT been any other announced proposals for additional Caddo data centers in the unincorporated areas of the parish, which is the only jurisdiction the Commission has on data centers.
The Commission has no jurisdiction to impose a moratorium on the proposed data center in southwest Shreveport which was the main impetus for the townhall.
Legal authorities agreed that there is no legal basis for a moratorium on the Stateline Road data center, as Commission president Greg Young stated, “that horse is out of the barn.”
Citizens have the right to address the Commission at its work session on any topic, however responsible leaders should not give false hope to those opposing data centers.
Many statements made at the townhall by the Alliance for Affordable Energy representative were questionable—” a single date center can consume 5 million gallons of water a day which is the amount utilized by 50,000 households”. A fact check of the entire presentation is difficult without a copy of the power point the speaker utilized.
