John came to Shreveport in January of 1977 when he was transferred to Barksdale AFB.

He’s been active in Shreveport politics since deciding to make Shreveport his home.

John practiced law for 40 years and he now monitors local politics. He regularly attends Shreveport City Council and Caddo Parish Commission meetings.

John is published weekly in The Inquisitor, bi-monthly in The Forum News, and frequently in the Shreveport Times.

He enjoys addressing civic groups on local government issues and elections.

 

SHREVEPORT NAACP/MORNINGSTAR CHURCH MEDIA EXCLUSION QUESTIONED

The Shreveport chapter of the NAACP held a political rally Thursday (Sept.25) at a Morningstar Baptist Church facility.
 
Both organizations enjoy tax IRS Section 501c 3 tax exempt status, which precludes political activities.
 
Those in attendance included Caddo Sheriff Henry Whitehorn, Shreveport city council candidate Billy Anderson, Senator Sam Jenkins, DA James Stewart, and others. (Whitehorn spoke, but he did not explain the escape of Tre-vion Jackson.)
 
Morningstar Minister Theron Jackson, who has endorsed his church member Stormy Gage-Watts for mayor, and interim Shreveport NAACP president Larry Ellis were on stage for this political rally.
 
Reportedly, KTBS and other media representees were not allowed in the meeting, which was free and advertised to the public.
 
Seemingly the “Citywide Mass Civic Engagement Rally” should have allowed the media and the restriction violated the restrictions of the tax exempt status of both the NAACP and Morningstar Baptist Church in addition to the prohibitions on political activities.
