The press releases from the Shreveport Police Officers Association (SPOA) oppose both tax renewals on the Nov. 3 ballot—the DDA tax renewal and the Caddo Parish tax renewal to fund the Sports Complex.
Their reasons are well articulated, and here are a few of the salient points.
On the DDA tax renewal:
“We have not seen the progress long promised since this additional tax was placed on the business owners downtown.
It does not take more than a google search to see that the 1.65 million dollars this tax generates has not been correctly applied to the issues facing downtown Shreveport.
SPOA formally opposes the renewal of this tax measure on the current ballot.”
On the Caddo Parish tax renewal to fund the proposed sports complex:
“Public Safety should be the focus of all governmental entities at this point in history, yes, including the Caddo Parish Commission.
78% of all revenue collected by the commission comes from citizens inside the city of Shreveport.
You are responsible for making Shreveport safer...with our money.
SPOA formally opposes the tax reallocation request of 60 million dollars on the current ballot.”
