Next school year Louisiana public schools will have a new state-wide grading system. The revamped grading system will put more weight on test scores while deemphasizing graduation rates and other measures of college readiness.

SHOULD CITY OF SHREVEPORT CONSIDER SELLING SOME OF ITS PARKS

Shreveport’s Parks and Recreation Department (SPAR) maintains 63 parks—yes SIXTY THREE! These include 16 recreation centers, 5 swimming pools, and 46 playgrounds. Some of the parks contain all three of these features.

The downtown lot owned by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson on Travis bounded by Spring and Commerce has been the location of unruly crowds, open drinking, and violence. Jackson has pulled a permit to install a temporary fence around his lot which is/has been a parking lot.

The Louisiana Judiciary Commission has made a ruling on the numerous complaints filed against Shreveport City Judge Seva Sims. The Commission recommended that she be suspended from her duties as judge for one year without pay and that she reimburses over $11 thousand in attorney fees and costs.

Grayson Boucher is finishing up two consecutive terms as the District D Shreveport City councilman. He will be termed out and cannot seek reelection. District D encompasses southeast Shreveport.
