SPORTRAN NAMED “TRANSIT SYSTEM OF THE YEAR”

The Federal Transit Administration has named SporTran 2020 “Transit System of the Year” for Region 6. The honor was announced February 26 during the 2020 SWTA Freedom Through Transit Annual Conference and Expo, held at the Shreveport Convention Center.

FTA Region 6 Deputy Regional Administrator Gail Lyssy presented the award to SporTran CEO Dinero Washington. Region 6 includes transit systems in Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. The winning transit system is picked based on their performance, innovation, and the results of their FTA triennial review.

“Region 6 includes many large cities with exemplary public transit systems. Being named ‘Transit System of the Year’ reflects the hard work of everyone at SporTran,” states Washington. “We are so proud of our team and the programs we have put in place to move Shreveport-Bossier public transit forward, including more efficient routes, low-emissions buses, and state-of-the-art technology. I’m excited to bring this prestigious award home to the citizens and community we serve.”
