John came to Shreveport in January of 1977 when he was transferred to Barksdale AFB.

He’s been active in Shreveport politics since deciding to make Shreveport his home.

John practiced law for 40 years and he now monitors local politics. He regularly attends Shreveport City Council and Caddo Parish Commission meetings.

John is published weekly in The Inquisitor, bi-monthly in The Forum News, and frequently in the Shreveport Times.

He enjoys addressing civic groups on local government issues and elections.

 

QUALIFYING DATES MOVED FOR NOVEMBER, EARLY VOTING EXTENDED

 The governor’s emergency order issued back in April caused changes to be made to upcoming elections.

Qualifying for the Nov. 3, 2020, election has been moved to July 22-24.

The elections that were originally scheduled back on April 4 and May 9, have been moved to July 11 and Aug. 15.

Early voting has been extended one week due to the Secretary of State Emergency Election Plan.

The July 11 election in Caddo Parish includes Presidential Primary and Spring Municipal Election. The Residential Preference Primary is open to registered Democrats and Republicans. There is an election in Greenwood for Mayor and Alderman in which all registered voters in Greenwood are eligible.

Early voting for the Saturday, July 11, elections in Caddo Parish will be held at the Caddo Registrar of Voters office at 525 Marshall Street, Suite 103, at the corner of Marshall and Milam streets across from the courthouse in downtown Shreveport during the following dates and times.

Early voting will open Saturday June 20, through Saturday, July 4 (closed Sundays, June 21 and June 28), 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

Voters should bring proof of identification such as driver’s license, government ID, etc. Voters may check their voting status or view a sample ballot at www.caddovoter.org by clicking the “Am I Registered?” or “what’s on My Ballot?”

Voters may call the officer at 318-226-6891 to find out if they are registered and eligible for the election.

You may expect adjustments in procedures to promote social distancing and safety as you arrive to cast your vote. You will also be expected to follow all guidance for personal protection and safety.
