CHAVEZ'S EULOGY FOR FLURRY

Mario Chavez delivered the following remarks this morning during the funeral of James Flurry.

“Good morning everyone and thank you so much for being present to honor James and show his family how much he meant to all of us.  There is no doubt in my mind that James is looking down from heaven and smiling at this crowd gathered that loves him. There's also no doubt if there's a potluck in heaven James is eating something he probably shouldn't however, my hope is our incorruptible bodies can eat whatever, so have seconds James, I know you deserve it.

I want everyone to close your eyes for a second and envision James and that beautiful smile, now envision his amazing crown he received, his mansion and James standing there before our all-mighty Father hearing the words "well done good and faithful servant. " Ok open your eyes. I know we are all going to miss James, but James made it, he's pain free and enjoying Jesus's promise to all of us. James set the example for us, he ran the race and won, he can rest. James loved God and he loved others, unconditionally and he showed the world how we are treating one another as well.

To miss Pat, I could not miss the opportunity to stand before the world and thank you for sharing James with all of us, I know the spouse of a public servant lives a tough life. I know you had to go to more events, rubber chicken dinners, neighborhood clean ups, and were the backbone for James when the world got heavy, and James needed a hug. Southern Hills and Shreveport loves you as well.

I know I'm a better father, public servant, and man for having known James, I'll miss my friend, but I will honor his memory by following in his examples. May we all strive to honor James by loving our God and loving our neighbors.
