WHAT HAPPENS TO FAIRGROUNDS FIELD LOCATION AFTER DEMOTION?

Shreveport will soon issue a contract for the demolition of Fairgrounds Field, the baseball stadium located at 2901 Pershing Blvd.

The stadium facility is still infested with bats. The demolition contractor must remove them before the demolition.

The stadium is owned by the city of Shreveport. In fact, the city owns most of all the property at the fairgrounds, including the Independence Bowl.

The State Fair of Louisiana has an agreement with the city that dates back to 1942 that designates management and control of the property to the State Fair with the exception of Fairgrounds Field and Independence Stadium.

The state of Louisiana owns the property where the State Exhibit Museum is located.

Willis-Knighton Health Care System owns property that adjoins the fairgrounds north of Shreveport Fire Station No. 8. The area previously was residential. WK has been demolishing the houses as they become vacant.

Although no plans have been announced, it is expected that the city will coordinate with these stakeholders to determine the best use of the property where the baseball stadium is physically located.
