SHREVEPORT COUNCILMAN JACKSON USES CITY EMAIL AND ADDRESS IN CAMPAIGN  WEBPAGE

JOHN E. SETTLE JR

Alan Jackson was appointed to the Shreveport City Council in Dec. by Gov. John Bel Edwards to fill the unexpired term of James Flurry who resigned due to health reasons. Jackson's appointment ends when the new council takes office in late Dec. of this year.

Jackson has a campaign website "ELECT DR. ALAN JACKSON  City Council District E."

The website has a DONATE button on the first page.

This campaign message is "A Stronger Shreveport."

The website lists issues as education, healthcare, economy, home ownership, and youth engagement to build " A Stronger Shreveport for your family and mine."

One page of the website Is titled "Feel Free to Ask Questions!" This page lists the following contact info:

Dr. Alan Jackson for City Council
505 Travis Street
Shreveport , La. 71101
(This is the address of Government Plaza)
phone:
(318) 510-4765
email:
alan.jackson@shreveportla.gov

The webpage does NOT distinguish between questions about his campaign versus questions constituents may have about city services, city issues, etc.

Clearly the use of the Government Plaza address on Travis Street for campaign mail violates state ethics.

The use of his city council email address on a campaign webpage is questionable.

Earlier this year Jackson pushed the ethics envelope by having the council clerk's office issue a press release for his community forum announcement.

Jacksons' part ownership in the Hookah District bar without obtaining a new city and state alcohol licences raise not only ethics questions but also legal issues on compliance with city ordinances and state law.
