Bossier City must file its council redistricting maps by the end of the year with the Louisiana Secretary of State.
Bossier is having two special council public hearings to receive public input on proposed redistricting of Bossier City council districts.
The meetings will be held in the council chambers at the Bossier Municipal Complex.
Redistricting maps for the council districts along with a map of the current district line will be on display in the lobby at the municipal complex.
One meeting is in the evening (6 p.m.) and the other during the day (2 p.m.). Additionally public comments can be sent to the Bossier City Clerk's office.
The City of Shreveport must approve and file its new redistricting maps with the Louisiana Secretary of State no later than 4: 30 p.m. on June 22.
The Shreveport City Council has had NO public review of proposed redistricting maps as of the publication deadline of Thurs. June 9 at 2 p.m.
And there are NONE scheduled.
The Shreveport City Council's next work session/administrative conference is Mon. June 13.
The next regular council meeting is the next day, Tues. June 14.
The council had a first reading of a redistricting map 8 B at its last meeting on May 24.
Word is that map 9 A will be the subject of an ordinance amendment on Mon.
This plan is a 5-2 majority black district plan.
The Shreveport Council Clerk has NOT posted any proposed maps online.
Thankfully three city council members (Levette Fuller, John Nickelson, Grayson Boucher) had a public meeting on Mon. to explain the maps. This effort reflected good government.
Good government at its best would have been to follow the example of Bossier City.
Its obvious that Council President James Green is coordinating the coverup game.
At this juncture the Green coalition of Tabitha Taylor, Alan Jackson and Jerry Bowman, Jr. are facilitating his effort.
Green manipulated the legal system when he was arrested last year concerning an incident at an optical shop. It’s obvious he is doing the same now on the redistricting.
His cohorts in the coverup include a church member (Taylor), a termed-out council member (Bowman), and a council appointee (Jackson) who may have legal issues on his may have legal issues over the recent fire at the Hookah District of which he is a part owner.
The coverup actions will lend further credibility to any legal action challenging the adoption of a 5-2 redistricting plan.
