SETTLE TALK JOHN E. SETTLE JR. EDITOR
Alan Jackson is the interim council member for District E.
He has a Ph.D. Seemingly, this degree does not help him read city ordinances.
Or maybe his challenge is understanding the ordinances.
Hopefully, Jackson does not think that his Ph.D degree exempts him from following city ordinances.
And surely, he does not believe he gets a free pass because he is on the council?
Who knows?
But I do know that Jackson is blatantly violating the city's ordinance on city signs. It's not that hard to read, at least not for me and other political candidates.
Signs in front of residences are limited in size to 8 square feet.
Signs in front of commercial establishments are limited in size to 16 square feet.
Jackson has numerous signs throughout his district that are 3 feet wide and 6 feet long. Hmmm ... 3 times 6 is 18. That means
Hmmm ... 3 times 6 is 18. That means that the signs are 18 square feet, which exceeds the maixmum of 16 square feet.
Three of these oversized signs are on Mansfield Road south of West Bert Kouns.
To make matters worse, Jackson has a humongous sign in the 9300 block of Mansfield Road.
This is the sign that is on the cover.
This sign measures 4 feet by 6 feet, or 24 square feet.
Seemingly, a person with a Ph.D. can do simple multiplication.
So, what's the deal with Jackson posting illegal signs?
As a council member and a candidate, shouldn't he comply with the city's sign ordinance?
If Jackson is violating the city sign ordinance, what other ordinances or laws is he violating?
