NEW SHREVEPORT COUNCIL CLERK REFUSES TO CONFIRM LANGUAGE OF COUNCIL RULES OF PROCEDURE

Shanerika Fleming was recently appointed the clerk of the city council.

Fleming had lost her job with the Perkins administration when his term ended.

She was involved in the ill-fated switch of the city's insurance carrier before Perkins actually took office.

Her services as his legal advisor and then chief of staff was spotty at best.

Her prior work experience was less than excellent.

She now is the queen bee on the council.

She has been the subject of many of my columns, and they were not favorable.

Now she thinks she can play payback on simple requests to her by email.

I asked by email her to confirm a council rule that concerns a non-vote by a council member.

If the rule sent to her IS the current rule (and the MUNICODE website indicates it is current) then the ABSTENTION vote yesterday at the council meeting by councilwoman Tabatha Taylor was not handled correctly.

It is Flemings' job as a council clerk to ensure the council rules of procedure are followed.

Playing games with members of the media is an exercise Flemings will lose.

Her new salary is $90,000--substantially less than when working for Perkins.

Her failure to answer a simple email is a judgement of how well she works her job.
