DOES SHREVEPORT NEED AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING OUTSIDE MUSIC SPEAKERS AT BARS/NIGHTCLUBS?

Last weekend's dancing in the street incident in downtown Shreveport has been attributed to DJs broadcasting from outside speakers at several downtown venues.

Evidently these DJs encouraged the unlawful street party that blocked traffic and injured several citizens.

Reportedly these included Haze, 318 and maybe Some Style venues.

Shreveport has a noise ordinance that regulates the maximum allowed decibels.

The ordinance is to be enforced by a noise control officer who shall be an employee of the department of engineering and environmental services.

Enforcement of the ordinance is not easy, requiring sound measures, etc.

This is not the first-time outside speakers in downtown venues have encouraged patrons and downtown visitors to gather in the streets.

How about an ordinance prohibiting outside speakers at downtown buildings?

This would be easy to enforce and could be adopted in June.
