Henry Whitehorn has announced his campaign for Caddo sheriff.
Whitehorn is challenging current Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator in his bid to be re-elected this fall.
Here are some decisive factors to consider in a Prator-Whitehorn election:
1. Prator is white.
2. Prator is a Republican.
3. Prator has a high name recognition in Shreveport and the parish outside of Shreveport.
4. Prator will be an incumbent.
5. Prator will have the overwhelming support of Caddo sheriff’s deputies and administrative staff.
6. Prator had a campaign fund in excess of $125,000 at the end of 2022.
7. Prator has just had two recent successful fundraisers.
8. Prator's endorsement of many candidates in prior political races will be a campaign asset.
9. Prator's wife, Carolyn, is a seasoned political campaigner.
10. Prator has previously conducted very successful campaigns.
11. Prator has a very outgoing, affable personality.
12. Prator can easily maintain a high public profile during the campaign discharging his duties as sheriff.
13. Prator has a well-organized, experienced re-election committee.
14. Whitehorn is an African American.
15. Whitehorn is a Democrat.
16. Whitehorn has never been in a political race.
17. Whitehorn's best friend and neighbor is political operative Lynn Braggs.
18. Whitehorn's tenure as Shreveport chief administrative officer is tarnished by the failed re-election bid by then-former Mayor Adrian Perkins.
19. Whitehorn's appointment as Shreveport police chief by then-Mayor Cedric Glover is diminished by the unpopularity of Glover with many Caddo residents.
20. Whitehorn's service as Louisiana State Police supervisor could be associated with the coverup of the Ronald Green incident by the state police, even though it did not occur under his watch, as well as the recent shooting incidents involving Shreveport police officers.
21.Whitehorn will have the endorsement of current Caddo District Attorney James Stewart.
22. Whitehorn will have the endorsement of Morningstar Minister Theron Jackson.
23. Whitehorn is not gregarious in public settings.
24. Whitehorn is not that well known in Shreveport and barely known in the parish outside of Shreveport.
25. Whitehorn has many connections throughout the state that should help in fund-raising.
This race will be one that hinges on Prator's experience and performance as sheriff and Whitehorn's promises on actions he will take if elected sheriff.
