SHOULD CITY OF SHREVEPORT PAY TO MOVE BUS STOP IN FRONT OF DOWNTOWN CLUB?

City councilman Alan Jackson has introduced an ordinance to pay $4600 to move a SPORTRAN bus stop that is in front of STYLE-- a downtown bar in the 200 block of Texas Street.

Jackson does NOT represent the downtown district--councilman Gary Brooks has downtown in his council district B.

Jackson did NOT coordinate much less discuss the ordinance when he introduced it at the last council meeting.

The Shreveport City Council is slated to vote on this action at today's 3 p.m. meeting.

The new bus stop that provides shelter from the elements was recently installed by SPORTRAN as a part of a program to enhance the experience of its riders.

The bus stop is on the sidewalk, which is owned by the city of Shreveport.

SPORTRAN received the necessary approval from the city to install this facility.

STYLE has no ownership in the sidewalk or the bus stop.

How does this installation interfere with a bar/club whose patrons enter the building?

Does the bus stop interfere with dancing on the sidewalk, or maybe dancing in the street?

What are the logical, factual basis to justify moving the bus stop?

Why should the city pay to move the bus stop to accommodate a business that is open only in the evenings?

Why did Jackson introduce this ordinance, especially without consultation with Brooks?
