Shreveport City Judge Brian Barber has been nominated to be the U.S. Marshall for the Western District of Louisiana. After submission of requested information Barber’s nomination will be reviewed by the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.
The U.S Marshals Service is the federal law enforcement and security arm of the U.S. federal judiciary. It is an agency of the U.S. Department of Justice and operates under the direction of the U.S. attorney general.
The Marshals Service is primarily responsible for locating and arresting federal suspects, the administration of the fugitive operations, the management of criminal assets, the operation of the U.S. Federal Witness Protection Program, the protection of federal courthouses and judicial personnel, and the protection of senior government officials.
The Western District of Louisiana has courts in Alexandria, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe and Shreveport.
If confirmed, Barber will resign as Shreveport City judge. A timeline for his confirmation hearing is unknown at this time.
