WHEN YOU THINK OF SHREVEPORT’S SAFETY WHAT FACTORS DO YOU CONSIDER

Do you consider natural disaster risk?

How about economic stability?

WalletHub just released its study evaluating the safety of 182 cities. New Orleans was last with a rating of 182. Baton Rouge ranked 180 and Shreveport placed 152.

WalletHub used 41 metrics across three dimensions to determine how safe a city is: home and community safety, natural disaster risk and financial stability. The study found that crime, traffic fatalities and economic instability contributed heavily to low scores in the bottom-ranked cities.

This study was heavily weighted to poverty versus crime. The presentation at the Shreveport City Council this week by Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith rebuts any conclusions that Shreveport is NOT a safe city.

WalletHub has a well-deserved reputation for bias in reporting that compares cities and states. This study is a perfect example. The problem is that it will find its way to many corporate offices considering opening locations in the Shreveport area.
