The Louisiana Judiciary Commission has made a ruling on the numerous complaints filed against Shreveport City Judge Seva Sims. The Commission recommended that she be suspended from her duties as judge for one year without pay and that she reimburses over $11 thousand in attorney fees and costs.
Sim’s entire file was received by the Louisiana Supreme Court last week. The file contains all the exhibits introduced in the hearing before the Commission, witness depositions, and the Commission’s rulings in the 70 pages plus findings.
Each of the seven Supreme Court Justices and their staff will review the entire file. The justices can decide to rule on the entire file alone, or they can entertain oral arguments by counsel for the Commission and Sims. No new evidence or testimony will be allowed in the case.
The Court, or a majority of the seven, can dismiss the case entirely, uphold the Commission recommendations, or increase the suggested sanctions. Sims could be suspended for a longer term than one year or be removed entirely from her position.
It is anticipated that the Court will grant oral arguments. A decision is expected early next year. Sims cannot appeal the decision of the Supreme Court.
