LAST WEEK'S QUEENSBOROUGH NEIGHBORHOOD SWEEP HAD BIG RESULTS

It is good news in one way.

And bad news in another way.

Shreveport's Property Standards and Public Works Departments focused their resources on the Queensborough neighborhood all of  last week. This combined effort was a part of Mayor Arcneneaux's Block by Block Initiative.
Guess how many tons of trash/debris  and tires were collected?

Guess again--HIGHER!

HIGHER!

Property Standards personnel collected and hauled off over three(3) tons of trash/debris  and 585 tires.
Over 100 --yes one hundred --tons of trash/debris and over 500 old tires were collected and hauled off by Public Works personnel.

For those that need a math refresher, a ton is equal to 2000 pounds. That means city workers gathered over 206,000 pounds of trash/debris.

Geez.

And when using the word "trash/debris" in this context it means  everything that has been discarded by people or dropped from the sky. Think old lumber, old sheetrock and shingles, tree limbs, bird nests, old appliances, litter, junk, vehicle parts, dead animals, furniture,  toilets, stoves,  and you name it, including kitchen sinks!

Maybe Shreveport should be called Trash City versus Ratchet City.

Just kidding, but think about it.

I know these city workers are paid for their labors. Nonetheless they have much better things to do than to toil in this heat picking up "stuff" that residents/passerbys have thrown out and not property disposed of.

What's really needed in Shreveport is a change in the mindset of many residents. Not sure how that is accomplished without a magic bullet.

103 Tons of trash/debris.

1085 discarded tires.

What did this clean up cost the City?
