John came to Shreveport in January of 1977 when he was transferred to Barksdale AFB.

He’s been active in Shreveport politics since deciding to make Shreveport his home.

John practiced law for 40 years and he now monitors local politics. He regularly attends Shreveport City Council and Caddo Parish Commission meetings.

John is published weekly in The Inquisitor, bi-monthly in The Forum News, and frequently in the Shreveport Times.

He enjoys addressing civic groups on local government issues and elections.

WHO AUTHORIZED HIRE OF PRIVATE ATTORNEYS TO REPRESENT CADDO COMMISSIONERS?

The Caddo Commission has hired Shreveport Jerry Harper to represent the seven Caddo Democrat Commissioners who signed the Sanders resolution before a vote of the Commission.

Shreveport attorney John Nickelson has been hired to represent the five Caddo Republican Commissioners.

Harper is a big-time Democrat.

Nickelson is a big-time Republican.

Reportedly, the Louisiana Attorney General Office is investigating the Sanders resolution. These attorney hires are in response to the investigation reports.

An email to Parish Attorney Donna Frazier revealed these facts  which were NOT announced or discussed at the Commission work session on Monday.

A second email to Frazier inquiring as to who authorized the attorney hires, and the hourly rate of each has NOT been answered by Frazier.

These questions are matters that should be revealed to the public. They are not, and should not, be considered to be matters of executive privilege and withheld.

Maybe this info will be revealed today at the Commission meeting. If  not volunteered by Parish Administrator Erica Bryant, hopefully one Commissioner will have the fortitude to ask these questions and insist on straight answers.

I am not sure if I should hold my breath or not.  As the Parish Commission and the 12 Commissioners get ready, presumably, to celebrate July 4, they should remember the U.S Constitution's  freedom of the press, the Louisiana Open Meetings Law, and the Louisiana Public Records Law.
