Shreveport's Block by Block Initiative focused on the Cedar Grove neighborhood last week.
Crews from Shreveports' Public Works and Property Standards departments worked six days. Citizen involvement was on Saturday. Shreveport councilman Alan Jackson and Caddo Commissioner Ron Cothran were in attendance on Saturday.
Want to guess the combined haul?
How about 89 tons of trash, junk, limbs, old appliances, dead animals, worn out household furniture, discarded building materials, clothes/rags, and you name it.
And 450 old tires which had provided great breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Goodness--when the sweeps concluded, Settle Talk may recognize the trashiest/junkest/messiet neighborhoods. Actually some of these areas probably just became covenant dumping grounds for citizens and businesses located throughout the city.
The real question is how long will Cedar Grove and the other areas that have been swept, stay free of all this mess?
