CADDO COMMISSION HAMMERS AMAZON ON TAX ASSESSMENT APPEAL

The Caddo Commission met Friday Sept. 12 as the Tax Board of Review.

The purpose of the meeting was to decide appeals by Caddo tax payers who objected to the assessment of their properties by the Caddo Parish Tax Assessor.

The agenda listed nine  companies who had appealed their assessment. Six of the appeals were denied in short order by unanimous vote. These companies filed last minute appeals without substantial documentation. Additionally, they failed to provide further information after filing of the appeal and the hearing.

Amazon. Com Services LLC was one of these six cases. The appeal was on the assessment of the Amazon warehouse on Campus Drive. Amazon was not granted any special treatment by the Commissioners.

Another case involved the Peach Street apartments. This case was settled after substantial discussion by the attorney representing the apartments, the assigned tax assessor and the Commissioners.

The last case involved the CF Tamarin SHV LLC and the Industrial Development Board of Caddo Parish (IDB). The Commission delayed this case to ensure the IDB had an opportunity to intervene and be present at the next hearing.

Commissioners Stormy Gage Watts, Steffon Jones, Chris Kracman and Grace Ann Blake had conflicts and were absent. Rumor has it that there will be no delays in their Amazon deliveries.
