BOSSIER ARTS COUNCIL GETS A SEVEN DAY EVICTION EXTENSION

The saga of the Bossier Arts Council (BAC) and its three-year non-compliance with reporting requirements with the Louisiana Legislative Auditor is thankfully coming to an end next week.

BAC lost its funding with Bossier City as well as its free residency in the old municipal building in the East Bank District after a 5-2 vote by the Bossier City Council two weeks ago with an eviction date of today, April 1.

The Bossier City Council approved hiring a director to manage the building and assume BAC duties at its meeting yesterday. Applications are now being taken for this position.

Bossier Mayor Tommy Chandler has extended the BAC eviction date until April 8.

One can only hope that BAC will be compliant and the keys to building will be handed over without the weeping and gnashing of teeth that highlighted several meetings of the Bossier Council preceding the eviction vote.

Good government often requires “hard decisions” that are needed for financial integrity and fiscal policy implementation, and the BAC saga is an example of the same.
