It’s the question of the day, given the controversy over purchasing additional police cars versus a ROOK.
The answer to the question is…. drum roll
NO ONE.
Given the Caddo Commission's history of doling out public dollars, it's anyone’s guess, especially if one reviews the list of NGOs (Non-Governmental Entities) that receive funds each year from this 12-person group.
Almost all recent recipients of contributions from Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson receive Parish funds, which should factor into the money handed out next year by the Commission. But that’s another story for another time.
At its last meeting the Commission voted to spend $75,000 for a third Welcome to Caddo sign that will be hardly noticed by motorists driving 60 mph (plus) on I-20, but at least it says “Veteran Friendly.”
The suggestion to fund $2.8 million for police cars did not identify a funding source, but perhaps that is not relevant much like not having the approval of Chief Wayne Smith and Mayor Tom before the notion became an agenda item.
If the Commission’s Public Safety Funding Committee meets to consider ANY money grant to the City of Shreveport, one better come early to the back conference room at Government Plaza where the Commission committees meet because it has very limited seating—fewer than seven chairs for the public.
Non-committee commissioner members John-Paul Young and Stormy Gage-Watt, who are both Shreveport mayoral candidates, will no doubt be present at the Public Safety Funding Committee meeting without their campaign push cards.
The hotdog stand with popcorn and peanuts for this circus will be set up outside Government Plaza.
