$75,000 FOR WELCOME SIGN BUT NOT FOR SPD POLICE CAR—CADDO COMMISSION VOTE

The Caddo Commission will vote at its meeting today (Thursday) to spend $75,000 for a Welcome to Caddo sign on I-20 east.

The Commission is ignoring requests from Shreveport Mayor Arceneaux/SPD Chief Wayne Smith and the Shreveport Police Officers Association to purchase police patrol cars that cost $70,000 fully equipped.

This vote comes just days after the Commission learned that parish administrator Erica Bryant hired a lobbyist who testified against two House bills dealing with the Caddo Port, stating the Commission opposed the bills despite the Commission never having voted on the matter. Bryant has been a Port Commissioner for 20 years.

This vote today will certainly show Caddo voters the priorities of the 12-member Commission, which hopes voters will approve a $40 million bond package this fall for a sports complex. This comes at a time when many Caddo voters still have concerns about the $10 million pickleball complex that did not require voter approval.

The 12 commissioners come up for re-election next year.
