John came to Shreveport in January of 1977 when he was transferred to Barksdale AFB.

He’s been active in Shreveport politics since deciding to make Shreveport his home.

John practiced law for 40 years and he now monitors local politics. He regularly attends Shreveport City Council and Caddo Parish Commission meetings.

John is published weekly in The Inquisitor, bi-monthly in The Forum News, and frequently in the Shreveport Times.

He enjoys addressing civic groups on local government issues and elections.

This Saturday is the primary election for the Public Service Commission election.
 
Current District 5 PSC Commissioner Foster Campbell is termed out after 18 years on the commission
 
The closed primary has two Democrats on the ballot—Shreveport’s James Green and Bossier’s Austin Lawson.
 
Shreveport’s John Atkins and Monroe’s Aiden Joyner are the two Republicans on the ballot.
 
District 5 stretches from Shreveport to Vidalia covering 24 north Louisiana parishes.
 
Atkins is the overwhelming favorite to win the Republican primary.
 
Between Green and Lawson, it's anyone’s guess who will be the Democrat opponent in the general election.
