WILL THE CADDO COMMISSION COMMITTEE CONSIDER PUBLIC SAFETY FUNDING REQUESTS

Ron Cothran chairs the Caddo Commission Public Safety Funding Committee.

The key question for the past several weeks has been whether the Public Safety Funding Committee will consider public safety funding requests from the City of Shreveport, eight Caddo towns and villages, and one Caddo fire district.

Rumor has it that the committee will meet this coming Monday at 1:30 p.m.

As usual, attempts to get confirmation from Cothran or Young have been unsuccessful.

Committee meeting notices and agendas, along with work session notices and agendas, are usually published on Fridays.

Seemingly this committee, and the commission as a whole, can no longer ignore these funding issues, especially with a general obligation bond likely to appear on the November ballot.

Since Cothran and Young, to their credit, did not go on the taxpayer-funded Hawaii boondoggle last week, they have had ample time to review the funding requests and decide on a course of action.

In addition to the $2.8 million funding for Shreveport police cars requested  by Commissioner John-Paul Young, here is the list of funding requests by other parish entities that total over $595,000:

Blanchard $152,568.00- two cars, one side by side.

Mooringsport $66,000.00- two used cars & equip.

Oil City $88,000- one truck, one side by side.

Greenwood $25,000- Outfitted traffic trailer.

Ida $55,000- one car, various equip. Ballistic vests, body cams etc...

Hosston $54,000- one used car, radar system.

Fire District.8 $150,000.00- one truck, one side by side.

Gilliam $4500.00- uniforms, ballistic vests & community programs.
