COMMISSION MONEY FOR POLICE CARS AND PUBLIC SAFETY FUNDING ON MONDAY’S COMMITTEE AGENDA

After a month-long break to allow five commissioners to vacation in Maui—four on the taxpayer dime—the Commission’s Public Safety Committee Meeting is back in action on Monday at 2 p.m.

The top agenda item is Commissioner John-Paul Young’s ordinance to fund $2.8 million to purchase 40 Shreveport Police cars. This proposal was defeated by a 6-6 tie vote at a previous commission meeting.

Presumably Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith’s $2.8 million wish list will be reviewed as a funding alternative.

The Commission has received funding requests from eight Caddo towns/villages and one rural fire district that total over $595 thousand.

This meeting follows the Economic Development Committee meeting, which will feature a presentation on the proposed $40 million sports complex while planning continues for the parish’s $10 million pickleball complex.

A large crowd is expected for the meeting which will be in the Government Plaza chambers.
