NONYA BEESWAX SAYS MORNINGSTAR MINISITER ON RENT FOR GAGE-WATTS FUNDRAISER

Mayoral candidate Stormy Gage-Watts had a fundraiser this past Sunday in the Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church Family Life Center.

When asked by email Dr. Theron Jackson, the church minister, said that Gage-Watts’ campaign rented the center after the conclusion of the Sunday worship service.

When asked about the rent amount paid by Gage-Watts and the rate charged to other organizations using the center, Dr. Jackson replied by email, “All is none of your business. Get back with me when you print what it costs everybody else to have fundraisers in the places that have their events.”

Thus, it is not known if Gage-Watts actually paid any rent or if it was the standard rate for other organizations renting the center.

Church sponsorship of political events is prohibited by IRS regulations for nonprofit organizations.

Presumably Jackson is aware of the differences between God’s law and man’s laws, especially IRS nonprofit regulations.
