One report has Bossier City as number ten in Louisiana’s 10 most dangerous cities. Shreveport is not on this list.
Another report ranks Shreveport as the sixth most dangerous city in Louisiana. Bossier City is not on this list.
So, what gives?
The list that includes Bossier City was released by southhillenterprise.com, using FBI crime statistics. The rankings in these report are based on the following factors;
a. Violent crime rates, including homicide, robbery, aggravated assault, and rape
b. Property crime rates, including burglary, theft and motor vehicle theft
C. Population-adjusted crime statistics
d. Cities with populations of at least 5,000 residents.
This report lists cities by violent crime rate for 100,000 people. Bossier had 911 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, 4,570 weapons offenses per 100,000 people, with violent crime affecting one out of 110 people and property crime affecting one out of 22 people.
Listed in order from most dangerous to least dangerous are Marksville, Monroe, Alexandria, Opelousas, New Orleans, West Monroe, Bogalusa, Jennings, Baton Rouge and Bossier City.
RoadSnacks analyzed violent and property crimes per capita for 39 Louisiana cities with over 5,000 residents in compiling its list of the 10 most dangerous cities in Louisiana. RoadShacks reports that the latest FBI Crime Data reveal that Louisiana is the third most dangerous state in the U.S. and10 Louisiana cities have higher overall crime rates than the state average.
Listed in order from most dangerous to 10th are Alexandria, Monroe, Bastrop, Opelousas, West Monroe, Shreveport, Bogalusa, Lafayette, Natchitoches, and Plaquemine.
This report states that Shreveport’s crime rate is 146% above the national average, with a murder rate of 47 per 100,000 people, 1,228 violent crimes per 100,000 people and 3,990 property crimes per 100,000 people. Shreveport residents have a one in 25 chance of being the victim of a property crime and a one in 81 chance of being the victim of a violent crime.
Needless to say officials in Bossier City and in Shreveport are not happy with these reports and question the veracity of the rankings.
