SHOULD CADDO SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT GET AN EIGHT PERCENT PAYRAISE

The Caddo School Board voted to give Caddo school employees an across-the-board pay raise of six (6%) percent.

Caddo School Superintendent Keith Burton has a contract with the Board that runs through September 20, 2028, after his three-year contract was extended by one year last September.

Burton’s base salary is reported to be $255,000 and it includes an annual 2% increase and up to $25,000 in performance-based incentives.

Burton and the school board face the continuing challenge of declining enrollment and the likely need to close more schools.

School Board Attorney Reginald Abrams advised that a separate Board vote is required to give Burton any additional pay raise over two percent since he is the only contracted employee of the school board.

Reportedly Burton’s attorney has questioned Abrams’ decision on this matter.

If the vote goes to the Board, seven of the twelve members who will not be on the Board starting in 2027 can decide this raise, which will automatically increase the annual contractual salary increase of two (2%).
