Sheva Sims is one of the four Shreveport city judges.
Her term ends this year and she is seeking reelection.
In 2015 Sims was suspended without pay for 30 days from her judicial duties by the Louisiana Supreme Court for wrongfully holding a city court prosecutor in contempt and unlawfully dismissing 15 criminal cases.
In March of this year, the Louisiana Supreme Court suspended Sims for nine months without pay and ordered her o pay $5,800 in costs. The Judiciary Commission had recommended a one-year suspension.
The Court ruling said that the suspension was for “acting in an impatient and condescending manner towards a litigant, misusing a court-owned vehicle, improperly advocating for a party during an eviction proceeding, and engaging in a pattern of not following the law.”
Sims can qualify to run and if elected be sworn into office on January 2, 2027 after her suspension ends in December of this year.
Trinicia Leonard and Kharmen Davis-Taylor have announced they will run against Sims in the November election.
Many citizens who have been in Sim's courtroom since her 2011 election are questioning the message on her campaign yard signs: "Experienced, Honest, Compassion", saying their experience in her courtroom was less than desirable.
