Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux has made it known since taking office in 2022 that he wanted to run for a second term as mayor in 2026.
He currently has more than $510,000 in campaign funds and can easily raise additional money if needed to fuel his re-election effort. This is the largest campaign fund for any mayoral election at the start of the election year.
Mayor Tom says he and his wife Elizabeth go where they are invited, which means many meetings throughout the city in addition to regular TV programs on two local sessions and a monthly hour-long radio session. He appears in black tie, business suits, casual attire and jeans at everything from high-dollar charity events, churches, civic club meetings, city cleanups, and line dancing in the Red River Entertainment District.
Tom and Elizabeth have been campaigning door-to-door for the last three months, visiting over 1,500 residences.
Like he has in his prior three elections as city councilman and mayor, he intends to qualify for the second and last term as mayor by citizen petitions that are being circulated now.
He was elected as a white Republican mayor in a predominantly black Democrat voter base in 2022, and he has a very good chance of victory with the same challenges regarding voter demographics.
His campaign push card is below. Future Settle Talk columns will review his touted list of accomplishments as mayor and plans for this hoped for second term.
