WHAT  WILL HAPPEN TO D’ANNA PRODUCE BUILDING ONCE DECLARED SURPLUS PROPERTY

The D’Anna Produce Building at 90 Market Street has been adjudicated to the City of Shreveport for non-payment of ad valorem taxes.

The building has not been occupied since the early 2000s and in its current condition it is not salvageable.

It is an eyesore located adjacent to the Hilton Hotel, facing the convention loading area and the back of the Hilton and its outdoor space.

Due to the warehouse's condition, its proximity to the city owned Hilton and Convention Center and its potential brownfield contamination, the city council is expected to enact an ordinance declaring that this property to be surplus and not needed for public purpose at its next meeting. After that the city can send the property at auction.

In the perfect world a 250 room (plus) hotel would be constructed at this location by a private developer to accompany the 250-room Hilton Hotel which would attract more conventions that require 500 rooms. If nothing else, demolition of this will certainly improve the appearance of the area as well as safety for any vagrants that may occupy the building.

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has previously stated that he hopes to construct a hotel near the Millennium Studios and his  downtown properties including the construction of the G-Dome. This location may be attractive to Jackson.
